On 5 Jan 1999, the annual MacWorld San Francisco took place, with an exclusive first look at what the people at id software were working on. The Macintosh had only just embraced OpenGL as its rendering API of choice going forward, largely in thanks to John Carmack. In turn he'd support the Mac (and Linux) platform equal to the PC. One major topic of this MacWorld conference was games. Plenty of announcements were made regarding which games would have ports coming out very soon for the Macintosh; now it was time to show them what game will be coming very soon and already was running on the platform natively. So for the first time we were granted a first look at Quake 3 Arena and its rendering technology, all running on a PowerMac G3 with an ATI Rage 128 in 24-bit mode. https://archive.org/details/q3arena_macworld_sf_1999/
